Case study 03
Designing for people who are, rightly, suspicious
People move real money through an exchange, often for the first time, and the category has a reputation problem. Every screen has to answer an unspoken question: is this safe, and what happens if it goes wrong?
The interface is deliberately plain. Clear rates, visible fees, obvious status at every step, and nothing that looks like it is trying to hurry the user along.
Rate and fees visible before anything is committed.
Explicit status at every step of the transfer.
Decisions
Problem
Hidden fees are the fastest way to lose a first-time user's trust.
Decision
Show the exact amount that will arrive, fees included, before the confirm step.
WhyA surprise at the end reads as a trick, even when it is not one.
Problem
A transfer that shows no progress feels like money that has vanished.
Decision
Give every transaction an explicit state and a plain-language note on what happens next.
WhyWaiting is tolerable when it is expected. Silence is not.
